For sizes not mentioned (DIA OR LENGTH) PHP will manufacture a cartridge heater as per customer’s specification.

INSTALLING PHP CARTRIDGE HEATERS

IMPORTANCE OF PROPER SIZE HOLES :
The most important thing to remember about the installation of a cartridge heater is that the cartridge heater should be close fit in the hole into which it is inserted. This results is fast heat transfer to the surrounding material and aids in keeping the element as cool as possible for a long life.

INSTALLATION :
Cartridge units are made with special tubing which is a few thousandth under-size to ensure a free fit for easy installation. To install cartridge heaters, drill and ream holes to proper length and the nominal diameter 0.001" max. of the cartridge heater ( 3/8", 1/2", 5/8" etc.) e.g. a 1/2" cartridge heater actually measures 0.497" dia. A hole should be drilled and reamed to 1/2" dia. 0.001" to insure a proper fit. Always finish ream, drilled or cast holes to ensure a smooth, uniform metal contact. A knockout hole should be provided if possible to facilitate cartridge removal.

THE RECEPTACLE HOLE SHOULD BE FREE OIL BEFORE CARTRIDGE HEATER INSTALLATION TO AVOID CONTAMINATION AND SHORTEN HEATER LIFE.

PRECAUTION FOR LONGER LIFE OF HEATER
Terminal or Mgo Contamination : Moisture absorption can occur when element is exposed or stored in damp or wet climate which may result in dielectric. But it may also be the result of contamination by oils, acid, salts & fumes.

Overhead Failure : Elements that fit too loosely will have poor heat transfer and short life due to excessively high sheath temperature. They should be fittedted with minimum tolerance & in reamed holes.

Physical damage : Physical or mechanical damage can also result in failure of the heater as it can damage the element in the heater.

ADDITIONAL CARTRIDGE FEATURES

  1. Distributed Wattage : Special Wattage Concentration for even heat distribution.
  2. Grounded Junction : One conductor extending from heat distribution.
  3. Cold Section : SPECIFY - location & Length.
  4. Centreless Grinding : For close fit application
    SPECIFY - dimension & tolerence
  5. Thermo Couple : Built-in thermo couple available SPECIFY - type J or K.
